FROM CAMEROON TO CANADA TO THE NWT
My journey to this campaign started in my original home of Cameroon in Central Africa
I was raised in a family of strong leaders. My grandfather was a Chief and spent his days listening to people, and doing what it took to solve their problems. My father had a strong political career and was actively involved in running political campaigns and elections
It was an early inspiration for me. I saw what a difference you could make for people if you step up and take leadership
That inspiration led me to a law degree in 2011 which sharpened my skills in finding solutions for my community.
LEARNING AND LOVING THE NORTH
After completing my law degree, I relocated to Canada to further my education.
Understanding the growing impact of climate change, I was drawn to the Environment and Natural Resource Technology program at Aurora College and made the move north to Fort Smith in 2013.
I learned to be on the land, to treat it well, and make sure others do the same. But even more, I learned about the issues and challenges faced by northern communities and the resilience of its people.
Coming from a country and continent that is working to shake off colonial rule, rise above it, and empower ourselves as a people, there was a lot to relate to.
BECOMING A LEADER IN THE NORTH
I graduated from Aurora College in 2015 and worked with the Yellowknives Dene First Nation as a Lands and Resources Coordinator. In 2017, I started with the Tłı̨chǫ Government in Behchoko as a Community Planner. Today, I am a Policy and Government Relations Advisor with the Tłı̨chǫ Government.
THE NORTHERN DREAM
“I’m extremely grateful to the North for the opportunities I’ve had. “I want to see a government which encourages many others to make the jump, and make the territory home.”
A dedicated, community organizer, Ambe has founded/co-founded the following organizations on top of his day job:
-
Black Advocacy Coalition Up North: an anti-racism and black advocacy organization based in Yellowknife.
-
Black CAN: a Canadian coalition amplifying black voices in politics
-
Global Shapers Network: founding northern curator encouraging young leaders to get together and find solutions to local, regional, and global issues.

Your Ideas Matter
I have my own ideas and inspirations. But I’m here to represent you - so I’m out engaging with Yellowknife Centre residents and Northerners about what’s important to them.
Have ideas or concerns you want to share? Let’s get coffee, have a call, or just rant away in an email – I’m listening!
